God’s Dot-To-Dot

January 18, 2019 by Christy Leave a Comment

My children love dot-to-dot books. When they are young, they start off with the easy 1-10 pictures and then work up to the ones with 100 little dots as they get older. Just the other day my seven year old was proudly counting up to 100 as we drove to the grocery store. She gave credit for her ability to the advanced dot connecting she has been doing!

I actually remember enjoying these books myself when I was her age. There is something magical about that picture slowly appearing on the page. I am sure there are all sorts of advantages to the developing brain as well, but you don’t really know that as a child.

Someone was recently talking about how God leads us moment by moment and a lot of times we aren’t even aware of it until later when we take a step back to look at a period of time in our lives. I was thinking how much this journey of life with God can be like my children’s dot-to-dots. There are days when it feels like God leads me from point to point and in the evening when I look back over my day, a giant picture of love shows up.

I am not talking about just the happy, rose-colored dots either. Even the blackest dots can make up a picture of love and protection. In fact, sometimes it seems that the most beautiful pictures of God’s love to me are drawn in the darkest times of my life. Just as children do not know all they are learning as they slowly count those numbers, I don’t think we will fully see the amazing picture God is drawing through our lives until He shows us in eternity.

So I pray that you will be encouraged as you walk through your day, that you will follow God’s leading. When evening comes, I hope you will see how He provided little graces throughout the day, maybe even certain encounters with others that turned into a beautiful picture of His love and protection for you.

“I know, O Lord, that a man’s life is not his own; it is not for man to direct his steps.” Jeremiah 10:23

“The Lord Almighty has sworn, ‘Surely, as I have planned, so it will be, and as I have purposed, so it will stand.'” Isaiah 14:24
